Autumn Adventures :)

It's finally time to catch up on blog posting!

I figure it's time to buckle down and document our time before I forget what happened.  Eeek.

September was a really fun month for us!  Mitch was supposed to deploy at the end of September, so he was home most of the month except for one short trip.

We took a day trip to Ocean Shores in mid September, just to relax and refresh.  And to see the sun set over the Pacific for the first time. :)  This sounds very cliche, but it was the most perfect day.  Truly.  We spent the day on the beach with very few others around and it felt like we were in our own little beach world.  We ran up and down the beach, in and out of the surf with the dogs.  We had some delicious snacks and a couple beers.  We read, laughed, and soaked up the sun.  And to top it all off, we got a pizza to go to eat while the sun sank below the horizon.  Yep, it was the perfect day.

The following week, the most amazing thing happened!  I got to participate in a spouse flight on the C-17!  It was so awesome to get to see the plane in action and get a tiny glimpse into Mitch's world.  The flight they took us on went over the mountains, out over the coast, then back to base.  They simulated what an air-drop mission would be like, which means they opened the back of the plane while we were flying and we got to see out!  It was so cool to experience and gave me a whole new appreciation for everything the C-17 flight crews do to complete their missions.

The final week of September Mitch's parents and brother and sister-in-law came out to visit us!  We took them on a tour of the C-17, explored beautiful Chambers Bay, drove up to Seattle to explore and watch the Bucks play at an OSU Alumni game watch downtown, and hiked in beautiful Pt Defiance Park.  It was a super fun week and went by way too quickly!

Mitch ended up not deploying at the last minute, so we got to have some fun in October when he wasn't on a mission. :)  We went to a local pumpkin patch and carved awesome pumpkins.  October was surprisingly beautiful and warm!  Definitely not what we are used to. :)

Later in October we took a last minute trip to Portland to just get away for the weekend and explore!  We went to an OSU Alumni game watch at an awesome bar, went on a brewery tour at Widmer, and walked around and stopped at random bars and ate a ton of food.  We packed a lot of fun into a short time!

Finally, we ended the month with an awesome Halloween with our friends!  Mitch brought Peter Pan back from Neverland and I decided to be a minion with Steph. :)

November took Mitch to Germany for a few weeks, so all of our fun had to wait until the end of the month.  He got back just in time for Thanksgiving and the OSU vs that-team-up-north game!  We also had our one and only day of snow!  Well... kind of.  We woke up to a light dusting and it melted by afternoon.

On Thanksgiving I ran the local Tacoma City Turkey Trot with my friend Jenny, and Mitch took the pups on a run.  Then we met up for our small town's Turkey Trot and ran a second 5k together. :)  It made eating on Thanksgiving a guilt-free experience and was also good training for our 10k that was a couple weeks later.  We had dinner with our friends and it was an overall amazing Thanksgiving. :)

The Bucks beat that dirty team up north! :)  After the football game we had a "fried day" and fried everything we could think of with some friends.  And by everything, I mean chicken wings, avocado, tortellini, pickles, jalapeno poppers, leftover cheese ball, cookie dough...you name it!  It was so delicious but so awful, and our house smelled like deep fryer for days!  Haha :)

We ended November by going to a local tree farm and cutting down our own tree!  It was the first time I had ever had a real tree for Christmas!  The dogs didn't even seem to find it odd that we had a real tree in the house, and luckily they didn't try to mark it at all. :)

And that was our awesome autumn! :)
